Matza Sticks ("pretzels")

These sticks are wonderful and remind me of pretzels.  Make a lot cause they are addictive.

Matza Sticks ("pretzels")

makes about 3 dozen

1 large egg
1/2 c water
1 t salt
1 c matza meal
1 c vegetable oil
1 t kosher salt

1.  In a mixing bowl, using a beater, beat together the egg, water, and salt.  Gradually stir in the matza meal.  Cover and chill at least 1 hour.

2. With lightly greased hands, pinch off a 1/2 inch nugget of dough and roll it out into a pencil shape between the palm of your hand and a clean flat surface to make a thin strip about 1 1/2 inches long.  Place on a flat plate.  Repeat until all the dough is used.

3.  Heat the oil in a heavy skillet and add the dough strands, a few at a time, and fry until golden.  Drain sticks and shake in a paper bag containing the course salt.

Crockpot - 20 Garlic Chicken Dinner

1 t salt
1 t paprika
1/2 t pepper
1 t olive oil
1 whole chicken
1 large onion, sliced
1 medium bulb garlic (about 20 cloves)

1. In a small bowl, mix salt, paprika, pepper, and oil to make a paste, spread evenly over entire chicken.

2. In your crockpot, place onion slices, then chicken.  Separate garlic into cloves, do NOT peel cloves.  Place garlic cloves around chicken.

3. Cover and cook on low setting for 7 to 8 hours, or overnight for Shabbas lunch.

4. With slotted spoon, remove chicken, onion and garlic from crockpot and place on serving platter.  Squeeze garlic cloves to use cooked garlic on mashed potatoes, vegetables, or bread (not during Passover).

Pre-Pesach recipes

Ok, everybody, Pesach (Passover) is coming, and so is the question of "what do I make in a home that is ready for Pesach, when it isn't Pesach yet?"  That is, what to make without leavened items (since the home is clean of them), yet also without matza items (since it isn't Pesach yet).  So, the coming postings will be recipes you can make that should "fit the bill".
